Read Across America Day

Posted On: March 2nd, 2018

Reading is one of my favorite things to do. There is nothing better than curling up on the couch with a blanket and a good book. My little one enjoys it, too. Each night, before bed, we read three to four of her favorite books. Sometimes she reads them to me!  Her favorites include: Goodnight Moon, The Duckling Gets a Cookie!?, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and Miss Spider’s Tea Party. To encourage more people to read, the National Education Association created Read Across America Day. It falls on March 2, which just so happens to be Dr. Seuss’ birthday!

To celebrate Read Across America Day, I thought it would be fun to read books set in Dayton! Check out my list below:

1.       Putting Makeup on Dead People by Jen Violi

2.       The Atomic Weight of Secrets:  The Arrival of the Mysterious Men in Black by Eden Bowditch

3.       Collision by Kate Mary

4.       City of Three Rivers by Grace Carter

5.       Dayton Ohio- An Intimate History by Charlotte Conover

6.       Race to Kitty Hawk by Edwina Raffa

7.       Touching the Ancient One: A True Story of Tragedy and Reunion by Rupert Pratt

8.       The Dam Battle by Joanne Gamblee

There are plenty more books on the National Education Association’s website for all ages! They even have a list of books set in each state so you can truly read across America. Maybe that will be the next list I start. For more information visit: http://www.nea.org/grants/61763.htm
